The old saying goes,  if it's not broken, dont' fix it.  Well if it is broken then FIX IT!  After 18 months, the government has allocated $40Billion, that's right, BILLION, do help banks modify loans.  So far 85,000 people have received modifications.  That has cost TARP $250million.  More of this story can be read on today's Wall Street Journal, look for Nick Timiraos blog.  The facts are ugly.  Neil Barofsky, the special inspector general for TARP, dinged the administration for not outlining more clear goals:

"Treasury’s continuing indications that this is a successful program without identifying these goals and benchmarks is simply not credible, and I fear that the growing public suspicion that this program is an outright failure will continue unless and until Treasury adopts this recommendation and comes clean with what its goals and expectations are."

Where is our American spirit of can do at get the job done and lets' roll!  If you are working to get a modification, be cautious, there are lots of scams ready to help you take your money to get the modification moving.  If you have questions on which direction to go, contact a professional counselor or real estate attorney. Be cautious.

Recently the list of the nations top 10 homebuilders had a new name added.  It may be a statisitcal variation or a sign of the times, but the newest home builder on the list was Habitat for Humanity. First, if have had anything to do with Habitat, you know why they made the list.   If you have volunteered in the past, thank you.  If you haven't, contact a Habitat office in your area, they can find something for you to do.  You say I don't know how to work on a home, well don't worry, there are plenty of other jobs you can help with.  If you are in the Ocala area and want to know more about Habitiat, call or e-mail to me and I can help you get connected.  I enjoyed the experience and look forward to helping in the future.  Get involved, help.

Next, with the consolidations of some of the larger builders, IE Centex-Pulte,  shortened the list.  There are many good home builders in all communities.  In the last couple of years we have lost some home builders, usually they were smaller and the slow down took them out of the picture.  It's never good when we loose a good business in the community.  If you look at the economics of home building, you will find the large economic source in a community.  Homebuilding has and should be for many generations a major impact on the economy.

We are a unique country.  We do a lot of thing differently here, that's why we are America.  We are the most compassionate nation on earth.  What makes us that way, our people. We have a different value system.
